How can one not constantly be amazed by the energy of the people around us here? And I don’t mean any kind of abstract spirit energy either — I’m talking about the very real energy of action, attention, thought, evocation, creation and engagement. I believe our energy is simply “what we do in the world.” What we offer, how we look and listen, and what we give back in response to others’ ways of being, is the total manifestation of our own energy. So, if I can express even some of the gratitude I feel in light of the staggering fortune of my own existence by putting energy into bringing sounds I love together with people i love, then I am luckier still.

It seems I ask myself more frequently each day, why does it seem like every place and every thing and every one around the world is just so very strange and getting stranger? Seriously, it’s gotten to the point where I can barely scan the newspaper without soon swearing out loud in disbelief at the many ways people mess up one-another’s lives. I turn to music… It’s not the cure but it helps with the pain.
